US House Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ) has condemned the decision by the US Embassy in Macedonia to enter a strategic partnership with the George Soros led Foundation Open Society. In an interview with the Macedonian Television, Franks has not minced words about the activities of the US Embassy, saying that its actions are a significant cause for concern and will lead to investigations by the Inspector General as well as the Government Accountability Office.

“We are very concerned about USAID money going to organizations that have been related to George Soros for a long time, and not just in Macedonia but across the world. George Soros has been a committed enemy of American ideals of human freedom for a long time. For us as Americans to support the organizations that undermine American policy and American ideals of freedom and human rights for everyone is a terrible injustice. For American dollars to go to organizations that are related to George Soros is to undermine our ideals as Americans”

We want to maintain good relations with your country. The challenge that we’ve seen is that there has been some questionable funding that the US Mission has made to organizations associated with George Soros which are really the antithesis of many of the things America believes. We’ve tried to get support from the State Department and USAID to get to the bottom of why this funding is occurring in ways that are antithetical to the best interests of Macedonia and undermine US policy in the world. The United States have always for freedom and for good will, and when we see money that was meant to help Macedonia promote those things going to organizations supportive of George Soros’ idea of the world which undermines human freedom and the human rights that should be ubiquitous, then we become very concerned.

The Obama Administration was very comfortable with this funding, the funding of left wing civil society groups that really were not for freedom at all. The Obama Administration did not care. But now, this new Administration cares very much. And US House Representatives, the US Senate and the new Trump Administration want to make sure that the money we spend for the US Mission to Macedonia helps the Macedonian people, helps the cause of freedom, the cause of human rights, and never undermines it as it has done in the past.

We haven’t received any answers at all from the US Embassy in Macedonia and it is starting to be a very significant concern on our part and some of us will have to take measures on the funding if we can’t make sure that the funding is actually helping Macedonia rather than undermining it. We don’t want to fund riots and bad things in the streets that hurt Macedonia and its people. We want to make sure that the help we are giving, whether it’s financial, diplomatic, whatever that may be, is helping the people of Macedonia live in human freedom and human rights, and be able to lay hold of the miracle of life.

We’ve already made some preliminary discussions about asking the US Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office as well, to tell us what is happening to the money here that is being sent. And again, the clear indication is that a lot of the money being sent to try to help with the human rights and to help Macedonia, is going to organizations that are related to George Soros, who is the antithesis of trying to help human rights and human freedom. So, we want to make sure that we turn that around as soon as we can.

We are very concerned about USAID money going to organizations that have been related to George Soros for a long time, and not just in Macedonia but across the world. George Soros has been a committed enemy of American ideals of human freedom for a long time. For us as Americans to support the organizations that undermine American policy and American ideals of freedom and human rights for everyone is a terrible injustice. For American dollars to go to organizations that are related to George Soros is to undermine our ideals as Americans. We are committed to human freedom and human rights for all, and George Soros has shown himself to be an overt enemy of human rights, freedoms and autonomy. We don’t want to see those dollars spent in those directions. Under the Obama Administration it was never a problem. It didn’t matter how far left the organization was and how they destroyed the streets and what riots occurred, and how they undermined civil society, it was fine. But, under this new Administration and under closer scrutiny now, I think that those things have to change. We have to see how we change the way those dollars are received.

George Soros has been the benefactor of America’s economic system in many ways. In a way he’s benefited indirectly and really exploited it in some ways. It has given him tremendous amount of money. Unfortunately he forgets how mortal we all are and how many is just for a time. He has chosen to use his time and his money in a way that undermines the cause of human freedom and human dignity. I want to make sure we don’t do anything to assist that. He has done that all over the world and has tried to undermine democracy in America, but we are on to him, we know what his plans are and we are going to make it clear that if he wants to spend his dollars undermining human freedom, we are going to make it clear what he is doing to the world. People like George Soros may tyranize the innocent for a long time, they may support organizations that seek tyranny over men, but in the final analysis they always fail in the judgement of fellow human beings and that will happen in his case.

My message to the Macedonian people is very simple: America loves you, we want you to be able to lay hold on the miracle of human life and to be free and able to pursue your dreams. We want to do anything we can to help engender human rights and human dignity in Macedonia, and we hope that you keep holding on the the ideals of freedom because they are the only way home. Understand that we don’t have any effort to ever oppress the Macedonian people in any way, we just want you to have have the kind of freedom that we’ve been blessed to have in America. We hope that we can hang on to ours and hope that you can hang on to yours.
